Glazed Porcelain Tiles are made of clay that has been permanently hardened by heat, along with a glazed surface. The glazed surfaces makes it possible to have more beautiful design surfaces compared to homogenous tiles. On the downside, if the tile is broken or chipped, the clay base will be exposed, as it is not a uniform material throughout the tile.
They can be used to line showers, pools, bathtubs and to create countertops. As ceramic tiles are not as dense as homogenous tiles, it is more suitable as wall tiles than to use them on high traffic areas. The hard surface is able to resist scratches and scars, while the glazed or sealed surface protects it from stain and water. Occasionally when the tiles break, grout lines will start to deteriorate and the floor will need to be repaired.
